Simple Techniques For Stress Reduction

Making any positive move to lower your stress level will put you back in control of your life and start to reduce the stress right away. Remember there is no one absolute cure, but some things can help in the short time, thus preventing the dissipation of energies needed to deal with long term problems.

  • Try to set aside even ten minutes each day to do what YOU want
  • Allow yourself to be wrong sometimes – after all it is only human
  • Avoid making yourself into a door mat …. Respect your own worth
  • Ask for help when you know that you really need it – wisdom not weakness
  • Plan ahead, considering and making provision for possible difficulties
  • Try to delegate as much work as possible – avoid wasting your talents on trivia
  • Prioritise and limit in realistic terms each day’s work
  • Avoid volunteering for additional work or setting unrealistic goals for anyone
  • Be prepared to talk to someone about your difficulties
  • Try setting a tough problem aside for a while – a solution may come as you sleep
  • When something unpleasant must be done do it as soon as possible
  • Be quietly assertive with those you manage – not aggressive
  • When faced with a difficult decision write down and consider calmly all the possible solutions
  • Avoid living out difficult situations over and over in your mind
  • Recognise when your fatigue level is reached and take a break
  • Try to introduce more physical activity into your life and make it fun
  • Go for a short walk in the fresh air – few people get enough of either
  • Use stretching to ease tensions within the body – this can be done seated at desk
  • Use breathing techniques for release and calming
  • Use short simple visualisation techniques to ‘rest’ the mind
  • Use music for listening, or to move to, as a form of release
  • Consider attending a trial session of yoga or some other relaxing therapy
  • Examine your eating patterns
  • Examine your whole lifestyle to spot areas for improvement
  • Try to have sufficient sleep. Avoid stimulating activities before bedtime
  • Consider your diet in health terms and obtain advice from an expert
  • Avoid too many cups of tea or coffee
  • Try having a massage to relieve bodily tensions
  • Consider and deal with noise if it is an irritant in your daily routine
  • Use a warm bath, Jacuzzi or sauna as a relaxation
  • Do anything that will introduce some laughter or pleasure into your life
  • Allow yourself a private cry when you need one
  • Give yourself some sort of treat to add pleasure at difficult times
  • Avoid reliving a hurtful or unfair event – learn to let go of hurt
  • ‘Be gentle with yourself!'
