(EAP)?

support for the psychological and emotional wellbeing
of their employees. Counselling is the main service
and is intended to provide psychological support for
staff through times of stress

The Staffcare service can be used in a number of ways.
Staff can access confidential counselling by calling
the free phone Careline number. In addition, managers
can contact the Careline for advice on handling sensitive
or difficult work situations.

Most contracts are for staff only, though some include
family members living with the employee and pensioners..

- Depression
- Self-esteem issues
In general, a potential problem is resolved more successfully
the sooner it is addressed.
5. How does counselling work?
Counselling aims to ‘help you help yourself’
by understanding why you feel the way you do and planning
how to cope with emotional and practical realities.
Counsellors are there to help you realise your own potential
and find the solution that work best for you.
6. How long until I am offered a counselling
appointment?
The counsellor will contact you within 24 hours and
you will be offered a face-to-face appointment within
3 working days.
7. Is the Staffcare counselling service confidential?
Confidentiality is an ethical requirement of our service.
All Staffcare counsellors are bound by their own ethical
code of confidentiality. In addition, referrals to Staffcare
are given a unique reference number, which further serves
to protect their identity.
8. Are there circumstances under which confidentiality
may be broken?
Should exceptional circumstances arise, whereby the
counsellor believes that you may take your own life
or cause serious physical harm to others, or if you
have disclosed information about a serious crime, the
counsellor may break confidentiality. In such circumstances
your consent will be sought before any action is taken.
9. Will I have to travel far?
Staffcare has a network of over 250 counsellors, located
throughout Ireland. We will try to refer you to a counsellor
that is convenient to your work / home. However, in
some areas you may have to travel to a counsellor.
10. Gender of Counsellor?
For counselling to work it is important that you feel
comfortable with your counsellor. For a variety of reasons
you may feel that you would find it easier to talk to
a counsellor of a particular gender. The Careline counsellor
will ask if it matters to you whether you see a male
or a female counsellor, and you will be allocated accordingly.
11. How many sessions can I have?
Most contracts are for up to 6 counselling sessions.
However, contracts do vary and the Careline counsellor
will confirm how many sessions you are entitled to.
12. How many times can I use the service?
Staffcare offers brief generic counselling, and our
counsellors do not enter into long-term counselling
with clients. However, should you experience a crisis
of a different nature, you can re-refer yourself to
Staffcare.
13. Is any information passed back to my employer?
Staffcare offers an independent counselling service
and if your contract includes self-referral via the
Careline then no details of your counselling are passed
back to your employers. In order to protect individual
confidentiality, Staffcare ensures the following:
- Counselling sessions are invoiced using referral
numbers
- Themes and trends are reported anonymously and
in no way identify the clients concerned
